Thoughts of Preacher John #5
The imposition of limits may force the opening of new horizons - freedom may be attained despite restraint. Where there are no limits care must be taken not to construct your own comfortable prisons - out of laziness or fear
'Was talking to Rich from Desdemona last night and he was saying how a lot of the creative drive in Desdemona comes from his efforts to unlearn the guitar, putting aside all the blues rock stuff he learned as he was growing up... he also drew paralells with methods he'd used when painting - e.g. "3 canvases, only use black, red and white - go!"... and how these limitations had actually proved useful in creating...
On the other hand thinking about the "Gen X" "option paralysis" thing - where so much opportunity is afforded to a generation of affluent people and yet they are unable to decide to do anything or at least not anything extraordinary, sometimes beacuse people fall into the construction of false limits for themselves - "oh, I can't/won't do that, because blahdeblah...."
Paradox. Yummy and flavoursome. ;)
