I see arseholes... I was walkin' down by the Thames next to Sonning a minute ago.. It's beautiful down here.. Now clearly some folks have been along earlier for a bbq.. I'll bet they had a lovely time in sun.. And then they left a massive pile of rancid rubbish behind.. Wankers! What is it with people? They go somewhere beautiful and straightaway fuck it up! When I was out in Mexico I'd go out to gorgeous unspoilt beaches in the middle of nowhere.. Only to find that if they could people actually drove their bloody cars right onto the beach, parked up and started leaving rubbish! I actually had to walk for miles along the coast to find somewhere that wasn't turned into half a parking lot cum rubbish pile! Never mind global warming - when are people going to pick up their crap?! Arseholes!

18 Feb 2008

Preacher John's Open Floor Night is no more!

It is over! it is an ex-night! it is deceased! it 'as passed away! it is no more! etc. etc. etc.
Too few folks showing up to play over too many months I'm afraid! so I'm gonna do something else with my third Friday of the month night!

It happened before years back with the "Sunday Sermon"- these things seem to have a life span (about two years it seems) and then the core people who used to come to them go off to Uni / have kids / be famous rockstars / record albums / get proper jobs etc... which is all good and good luck to all of you!

Big thanks to everyone who came to the nights over the last couple years!

Especial thanks (in no particular order) go to:
Bethan and Three Mile Cross
Richard & Sarah & Craig & Ian & Adrian - Desdemona / Dolly and the Clothes Pegs
Mike Rose
Chris Nolan
Katy Took
Matt Dixie
Brian Day
Paula Curtis

Becky P.
Pete & Tom & Pete Dog - Pete and the Pirates
Gail - Hot Silk Pockets
Muz
Terry
Rev. John Ham
Paul Davies
Nick Davis
Johnny Hoggett

Al Carlyle

and everyone else who came and played and helped out and made those nights strange and beautiful!Sorry if I missed your name it's bloody cold in this office and my feet are freezing!
You are stars! Keep on Rocking people!

Cheers folks
see you out there gigging!

The Come Together Festy peeps sent me this:
"Unfortunately after the flooding of Marsh Meadows, the site is still far too waterlogged to hold our festival. We are hoping for a licence to do something different in the town centre. We are also working on projects that will run throughout the year, which will involve music, dancing and workshops for all ages.Watch our myspace for all the detailsCome Together Crew. x"
Gutted! :'(

up and down
So it's been an up and down couple of weeks... I've been real busy with the teaching and trying to sort out a survey for this boat I hope to buy and gigs and selling the album and all that's good... but I had to go up north for a family funeral this week... very sad and pretty intense too... hopefully everyone's gonna be ok, y'know as can be...
Anyhow I'm back down south again and back in the saddle so get down to a gig! and y'know buy my stuff 'cos I need to get the money together for this boat! ;)

10 Aug 2007
Album now set up to buy online!
You can now buy my album online through my cafe press site:
http://www.cafepress.com/preacherjohn
That is if you can't make it along to one of my many gigs and get a copy from me there!
I'm gonna look into selling it through iTunes or something too... so watch this space and I'm gonna revamp my website a bit too so it's all a bit less of a maze! ;)

02 Aug 2007
New tracks up from new album! Current mood: sleepy
New mp3 tracks up! Enjoy people! Now I go to bed! I soooo tired! ;)

01 May 2007
Cold cure upshot!
Ok I know it's been a while...
So here's how the cold cure went... I couldn't get genuine scrumpy in the shop so got Henry Weston's Vintage Cider (8.2%) - strongest available cos I figured the alcohol pulls the good stuff out of the onion before it gets boiled off...
That's very tasty cider by the way...
Unless you boil an onion in it... It didn't make me spew and it did seem to be powerfully decongestive! Especially while "piping" hot... However it did have a pretty Shabba (- Rank - that is) aftertaste... It was kind of the taste equivalent of old socks steeped in urine...
Anyhow I slept pretty well and having gone to bed about 30% I was probably about 60% on form the following day - the Friday, a noticeable improvement beyond the to be expected I reckoned...
And indeed with application of lots of ginger (chopped raw root ginger), honey and lemon "tea" on the day my voice worked well enough to do the recordings on Sunday! Woo!
So a qualified success...
Thanks to Gary for posting the polish equivalent... Interesting that it also involves garlic (closely related to onion) and booze... Hmmmm....

Helloooo!
Much news since last posting... But the big thing today is:
My Album is DONE! It is READY! WooHoo! Current mood: exhausted
Yes, it's only taken a YEAR! But at last the "best of" (or "you can just just about stand it of") Preacher John is DONE! DONE I say! My creation lives! ...I'm soooo sleep deprived!...
It's called WORD (1998 - 2007) on account of it being a retrospective...
25 tracks - including a shedload of new ones and load of older ones never before recorded (or not as well as this anyway!) there's only three tracks on from previous albums and all the new recordings were (all 22 of them) were done live in one take! And there's a supercool remix by Jason Field too (I'm pretty sure that's up on my profile but this PC won't let me see it!!!)...
I've made a few to sell already they'll be £5 coming soon to a gig near you!Oh and it'll be up on my Cafe press soonish too!
Yay!
(must sleep now!)
Cheers

Jon

Gigs, Band news and Busking!

Hey guys

Just to let you know i'll be playing a full Preacher John set down at Colorz (Bar Oz), in Reading, opposite the train station, on Thursday 26th of August... I'm first on so best get there around 8pm if you want to see me play! Katy Took (drummer from my band Army of Pygmies) may be providing rythmns depending on if we can ever sort a time for practice...

Speaking of Army of Pygmies: Mr Jason "Disgusting" Field has left the ranks :( to concentrate on his own funky bandDubious Jones... so watch out for them... But we have a new guitar pygmy ably filling his large shoes - Nick! Yay! :) Hopefully the Pygmies will be out gigging in a month of so.... ROCK!

I've been working up a busking set of *gasp* covers - mainly Beatles and old soul stuff, Police, NMA etc... having learned from bitter experience that busking original songs = no money... so expect to see me sometimesoon being moved on by the plod in Reading town centre...I'm also planning to go and "busk" my own stuff outside Reading Festival this year, just like I did in '99 -I dunno if Mad Matt Westwood is up for coming along and shouting poetry at passers by, but Matt if you are drop us a line, eh? So watch out for us and hey, throw money! but not too hard!

That's all for nowCheersfromJon:)

I'll reload that when Jay gets the files back from his host.... Meantime I took the oppurtunity to fix all te dead mp3.com links so now you'll find that all the main page links to my music, Desdemona, afharrold, Matt Westwood, Andy Raven and Broken Brow are live and working!

Same URL as it used to be

or if you prefer

or these two will also work, tho' I plan to use 'em for something different in the future
